Overall, if your car has the old-school-looking side-button wide shifter knob like mine did, I can absolutely recommend this product. I would prefer this method to release the shift lockout, rather than lifting the whole knob up. What I liked about it was that the aluminum SLEEVE below the shift knob could slide up into the knob in order to put the car into reverse. My mk4 TDI had a B&M short shifter installed, with a heavy weight aluminum shift knob. Turns out I didn't have it tightened down, so I've been experimenting with adding plastic washers/shims to the top of the threaded shaft to give me the proper spacing to tighten down where I want it, since I can't remove the coin.

I fucked up during the install and applied the coin once I thought I had the seam where I wanted it with the knob tightened down. They have also done blue Alcantara and red in the past, but I think they were limited-run. They have other versions of this knob - one with Alcantara instead of perforated leather, and versions with black aluminum instead of shiny. It's actually an engraved and hand-painted looking finish, and I actually greatly prefer it this way. I expected the coin to have a flat or slightly rounded, gloss finish. Installed at the proper level, and with the set screws installed properly, this is not an issue. I need to get a slightly larger boot (I plan on getting a manual-transmission shifter boot and removing the gear indicator panel anyway) I had installed the boot too high on the shifter. When putting the car into park or sport, resistance is felt as it pulls on the boot.

Disclosure: I paid full price for the item and purchased through a reseller (ECS Tuning). Second picture is the "before" picture, obviously. Post-install, I love the way it looks and feels. I got it for my 2008 Audi S6, but this exact same item would fit basically any automatic VW as well. It is specifically designed for automatic transmission applications, including DSG. So I recently purchased Black Forest Industries’s (?) “GS2” shift knob. When posting an image for a theme day, please tag the submission with the appropriate link flair.
